Alexander McQueen Skull Rings

Alexander McQueen Skull Rings

Being the proud owner of one of these babies myself I can vouch for them making you feel like a rock princess everytime you have one on.

Their weight and bling is substantial, I feel wearing one around could be classified as a light form of exercise, but they are not uncomfortable and the joy gained is totally worth it.

These are certainly statement pieces and any McQueen fan’s wardrobe is not complete without one.

Antique Gold Butterfly Skull Cocktail Ring. Available at alexandermcqueen.com $345

Alexander McQueen Gold Serpent Head Ring. Available at matchesfashion.com $335 (£225)

A. Mcqueen Conch Shell Ring. Available at cultstatus.com.au $350.

Polyvore

POLYVORE

The Website: www.polyvore.com

The Content: Everything under the sun.

The Quirk: This website is not actually an internet shop. Instead you enter your search criteria, click enter, and are presented with every online shop stocking that item. From Mathew Williamson and Alexander McQueen to topshop the only limits are how creatively you can enter search terms.

The Experience: I remember I first discovered Polyvore after purchasing a beautiful Pamela Love ring from a retail store in the city. The $150 price difference between what I paid and what I discovered it was for sale for made sure that this site stayed front and centre in my mind.

Not only perfect for personal shopping adventures this website is perfect for gifts. For the birthday’s of friends nearest and dearest our budgets can be enlarged. But why not make sure the money you have to spend goes even further?

The added bonus of this website is that it shows the sale price of any items that may happen to be on sale in their original online store. So you now have access to real price competition.

Another added bonus is for those items that may have sold out through their original stockists. Take a Sass and Bide dress for example. If Sass and Bide sells out Polyvore still searches the entire internet for another online store that may be stocking the same item.

I used Polyvore last Christmas to purchase an Alexander McQueen  ring from a shop in Perth. The ring was perfect and the shop’s service was excellent. [Stay tuned for a review on the store]

The Perks:

  • Easy price comparison between online retail vendors around the world.
  • Added features including being able to collate items onto one age to create a ‘look’, perfect for further procrastination.
  • The ability to search in a variety of ways, including by trend.
  • The ability to follow polyvore members and see the ‘looks’ they create.
  • A direct link back to the online store from which they item was sourced making the buying process very easy.

The Pits:

  • Sometimes the items showing on Polyvore are no longer available in their original online store. This leads to the dreaded ‘hopes up, let down’ syndrome.
  • Polyvore pulls items from shops around the world. Unfortunately it doesn’t factor in postage. Some items may appear as being cheaper on the Polyvore website only to come with huge postage fees. Likewise Polyvore doesn’t reflect any deals with postage that the original store may have running. This all means a bit of maths is required to ensure you get the best price possible.

The Merchandise: Beautiful dresses and accessories for all occasions. Specialising in soft feminine frocks for formal event with a stunning range of bridal wear. Also suitable for girls who simply love looking beautiful and feminine 24/7.

The Website: www.thebabushkaballerina.com.au

The Review: I discovered The Babushka Ballerina late last year. A girlfirend and I stumbled into it on its opening weekend. We thanked our lucky stars we hadn’t decided to go shopping the weekend earlier.

We immediately fell in love, not only with the beautiful dresses ranging from sexy to feminine but also with the gorgeous Sierra Ramke, the designer behind Babushka Ballerina.

The palate is soft with dashes of bright red, gold and black. In all my travels and shopaholic fixes I have yet to find another designer who captures so well, and so wearably, what it is to be feminine.

From soft, highly pleated skirts with sashes ranging from lilac to orange, to Jessica Rabbit-esque bandage dresses in soft pink and baby blue, these items could be paired with combat boots and still give the impression of soft and maidenly attire.

Sierra’s choice of accessories are not to be left unmentioned. With a beautiful collection of Nomiki Glynatsis couture jewellry, and the introduction of new oversease labels the one thing shoppers can be assured of is that anything Sierra selects will have the same design ethos as her own stunning creations.

Although for most women these lovely items will be kept for special occaisions the reasonable prices and that fact that it is just all so pretty has meant that I for one have incorporated many pieces not only into my daily wear but also into my workwear… who says offices don’t need splashes of colour?

The Verdict: The Babushka Ballerina is a definite shopping must in Brisbane. My personal suggestion would be to get in quick as the future success of this label is guaranteed.

Hello world!

Inspired by an impending four month sejourn to Paris one of the world’s most beautiful fashion destinations I have decided to take note and share all the beatiful and beastly facets of life I encounter in my procrastination and travels.

I hope you enjoy seeing and reading them as much as I have enjoyed discovering them.
